Lenovo has announced a partnership with FedoraProject to offer developer-friendly ThinkPad series laptops that will run on the newly released Fedora 32 Workstation Linux out of the box. The Linux Community Series program will kick off with devices including ThinkPad P1 Gen2, ThinkPad X1 Gen8, and the ThinkPad P53 laptops. The company aims to expand the selection of devices to other models soon based on demand. Currently, very few PC manufacturers Dell offer laptops pre-installed with Linux, although Dell has several products available to buy. The project hopes to appeal to developers, IT professionals and the open-source community, but also people who prefer having a laptop running on Linux but do not want to get involved in replacing the operating systems manually. Paytm Mall, the ecommerce arm of Paytm, announced that it has received an overwhelming number of requests for non-essential items since the start of the lockdown, with the searches on its platform for mobile phones, trimmers, and laptops surging more than 200 percent. With work from home and online education becoming the new normal, citizens are also wish-listing non-essential products like consumer electronics. Consumer electronics topped the wishlist with over 1.3 lakh requests. A positive indicator for mobile phone companies, people wish-listed mobile phones upwards of 75,000 requests, says Paytm Mall. This is closely followed by people wish-listing to buy laptops as the ecommerce company received a total of 50,000 requests. Qualcomm's latest Snapdragons are powerful enough to let tiny smartphones play Xbox One-class games, or enable tablets to run Windows PC apps, but without traditional controllers such as gamepads, mice, or trackpads, convincing people to fully replace their consoles or laptops with mobile devices is an uphill battle. Everyone agrees that iPads redefined tablets, but they haven't supplanted business computers.
